Basketball player Lee Kwan Hee, a cast member of 'Single's Inferno 3,' is facing criticism after making blunt and uncomfortable remarks about Hong Jin Kyung.
Recently, Lee Kwan Hee uploaded a video titled 'Looking for someone to watch ‘Single’s Inferno 5’ review together' on his YouTube channel. In the video, Lee watched Netflix’s dating reality show 'Single's Inferno 5' while reacting alongside Yoon Ha Bin, who also appeared with him on 'Single's Inferno 3.' While viewing the show, Lee reacted strongly to a comment made by MC Hong Jin Kyung.
“I actually wanted to say this,” Lee said. “I don’t think Hong Jin Kyung sister really knows dating that well, and it makes me angry that she’s there giving dating advice.” When Yoon Ha Bin responded, “Hong Jin Kyung is married and has a child, though,” Lee shot back, “Does getting married make her better than me? I’m going to get married too.”
Lee continued to single out Hong Jin Kyung, saying, “I acknowledge MCs Dex, Hanhae, and Lee Da Hee. But honestly, I don’t understand Jin Kyung sister. I don’t think she’s better at dating than I am.” He even looked into the camera and added, “Jin Kyung sister, I don’t think you and I match.”
Yoon Ha Bin, who was seated beside him, attempted to ease the situation, saying, “I respect Hong Jin Kyung. Doesn’t everyone have their own style?” However, Lee once again remarked with a laugh, “Jin Kyung sister, do better. You’re not funny.”
The video quickly drew backlash from netizens, who criticized Lee’s comments as disrespectful. Online reactions included: “How can someone be this rude and tactless,” “He doesn’t know the difference between speaking honestly and being disrespectful,” “MCs are supposed to give commentary—what else are they meant to say,” “You should know what’s appropriate to say and what’s not,” “He seems to forget that 'Single’s Inferno' wouldn’t run without Hong Jin Kyung,” and “How far is he going to take this rudeness?”
Lee Kwan Hee’s remarks have since sparked debate over the line between candid opinions and basic respect, particularly when directed at fellow industry figures.
