On January 1, former AOA member Mina revealed she was rescued after attempting to take her own life.
Earlier that morning, Kwon Mina posted a lengthy message on her social media account titled, “Goodbye, and I’m sorry.” About two hours later, she shared a follow-up post describing in detail what happened at the time of the attempt.
She wrote, “If it had been left just a little longer, I really could have kept my promise today. But suddenly I heard noises, and someone started shaking me violently. My consciousness kept fading in and out, and I kept screaming ‘please’ in my head—then I was rescued again. I’ve become like the boy who cried wolf.”
Kwon further fueled concern by adding, “But I will keep my promise. Disappearing right in front of your eyes.” She also uploaded a photo showing redness around her neck.
Earlier in the day, Kwon had posted another long message describing the severe emotional pain she had endured. She admitted, “I shocked people with graphic scenes, repeatedly posted things that exhausted everyone, and invited criticism, including posts admitting my own faults. I wasn’t in a normal state of mind.”
She continued, “I did everything because I felt genuinely wronged. I hated feeling wronged so much that I gathered the courage to call things out, but in the end, I destroyed myself.”
Kwon also spoke about an ongoing court case, stating, “I’ve been in trial for four years as a victim of sexual assault resulting in injury. While the assault itself was acknowledged, the injury was not proven. In the first trial, the perpetrator was found not guilty due to the statute of limitations.”
Explaining the lack of physical evidence, she said, “I was afraid of retaliation, worried my mother would find out, had no money to go to the hospital, and instead had to hide.” She also confessed that she continues to suffer from recurring nightmares and trauma.
Addressing the long-standing controversy over alleged bullying during her time in AOA, Kwon said, “There’s something everyone says to me—that I ruined the group. That’s true.” Reflecting further, she added, “Sometimes I think, ‘I endured it for 10 years, maybe I should have just held on a bit longer,’ or ‘I should have cursed them out too.’ I did end up sending furious messages later—maybe you could call it a 10-year-long revenge.”
She concluded with a message to others, emphasizing, “In every situation, evidence is extremely important. Always leave records behind. Don’t live your life feeling wronged.” She ended by saying, “To everyone who cherished me, loved me, and treated me like a human being, I am truly grateful and deeply sorry,” further heightening concern among fans.
Kwon Mina debuted in 2012 as a member of AOA and found success with hit songs such as “Miniskirt,” “Short Hair,” and “Like a Cat.” She left the group in 2019 and transitioned into acting.
In 2021, she alleged that she had been bullied for over a decade by then-AOA leader Shin Jimin, leading to Shin’s departure from the group and AOA effectively entering an indefinite hiatus.
In November last year, Kwon signed an exclusive contract with MODEN BERRY KOREA, signaling a return to acting. However, she announced that the contract was mutually terminated on the 22nd of the following month, just one month after signing.
