On January 24, renowned South Korean band DAY6 successfully performed at a full-house venue in the Philippines for their awaited ‘The Decade’ show. This came 11 months after their third world tour, ‘Forever Young.’
True to its title, the show started with a nostalgic VCR filter counting down the years from now back to their debut year, 2015, celebrating “the decade” with DAY6. Following the nostalgic mood set throughout the venue, the band (members Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil, and Dowoon) appeared at their respective instruments. As they hit the notes for the opening song, “Time of Our Life,” the atmosphere shifted into a high-energy celebration; the band invited the audience to “get up” and join the fun, highlighted by rainbow-colored confetti after the first few beats.
The first section of the concert included “Melt Down,” “HAPPY,” and “Welcome to the Show.”
As the audience matched DAY6’s energy with loud cheers, the members told the crowd that they hoped to give back that energy tenfold.
The setlist also featured “Disco Day,” “The Power of Love,” “Days gone by,” “Marathon,” “Maybe Tomorrow,” and “Zombie.”
After performing “Zombie,” Young K remarked, “I hope your everyday life doesn’t feel too much like a zombie. We hope you guys feel beautiful,” before proceeding to the next section to sing their iconic track, “You Were Beautiful.”
The band also sang “Letting Go,” “I Smile,” “You Make Me,” “Love me or Leave me,” “Warning!,” “Sweet Chaos,” “Shoot Me,” “Afraid,” “So let’s love,” “I like you,” “Our Season,” “Congratulations,” “Dream Bus,” “Inside Out,” “Somehow,” and “Freely,” before concluding the show with “Best Part.”
As the show neared its end, the members took time to share their messages with their fans.
Wonpil: “Whenever we go to Manila, we always receive a lot of energy from you. We always look forward to coming here. I always wish to come back and see you more often. I’m grateful that a lot of you haven’t forgotten us. Also, this stage is special to us because it’s where we used to watch performances before. I wondered if we could ever perform at this venue as well someday. Thanks to you, we are able to perform on this stage in front of many of you for ‘The Decade’ tour. We have grown together since our early days, and I hope we’ll continue this journey together. The best gift we can give back is through good music and good albums.”
Dowoon: “I want to come here every day. Whenever we come here, you give us a lot of energy. Although we came back after 11 months, we will do our best to come back sooner next time. Thanks to you guys, I am so happy now. I hope today is one of your happy days too. Always live doing everything you want to do, and let's live without regrets!”
Sungjin: “I’m sure you are going through a lot in life as well. When you’re having a hard time, just look at us and listen to our music. I feel like I gain a lot of energy whenever we come here. I hope you will also use this energy in your everyday lives and live your lives with passion. Use your energy to be healthier and happier in life as well. And if you still have too much energy left, I think it would be great if you could have fun with us like this. Until we meet again, please stay healthy and happy.”
Young K: “I had a great night tonight. Thank you so much for a wonderful night. You guys said that DAY6 is more than just a soundtrack [of your lives]. To us, to me, each and every one of you—you guys are more than just one listener. You are the reason why we sing, go on stage, compose, write lyrics, and release albums. You guys are the reason why we want to come back. So, please know that each and every one of you—you have great power. You make us move. You give us reasons to work, and I enjoy that. I like that. Seeing you smile, have a good time, and sing along together—that’s the reason why I want to continue to go on stage as often as I can. You are very important. Please know that you are more than whatever you think you are.”
