Police launched a compulsory investigation into singer Psy over allegations that he received remote prescriptions and had sleeping medications picked up on his behalf.
According to KBS, the Seoul Seodaemun Police Station conducted a search and seizure of Psy’s agency and vehicle on December 4 as part of an ongoing probe into possible violations of the Medical Service Act.
Investigators reportedly secured Psy’s mobile phone and are performing digital forensics to obtain evidence related to remote prescriptions and third-party collection of medication. Based on the materials gathered, police are considering summoning Psy for questioning.
Psy is suspected of having received prescriptions for psychotropic sleeping medications from a university hospital in Seoul without in-person consultations from 2022 up until recently. The investigation also found that the drugs were collected by his manager on his behalf.
The hospital stated, “We cannot comment as the matter is under investigation,” while the attending physician reportedly denied any wrongdoing, insisting the treatment was conducted through legitimate remote consultations.
Psy’s agency told KBS that he had received prescriptions through remote consultations since the COVID-19 period, and that due to his busy schedule, he continued with the same method afterward, acknowledging that “there was an aspect of negligence.”
However, the agency emphasized that Psy did not receive prescriptions under another person’s name, nor did he misuse the medication by taking excessive amounts or using it for purposes outside the prescribed scope.
