HYBE announced that the anime adaptation of ‘Dark Moon: The Blood Altar,’ created in collaboration with ENHYPEN, will begin airing in Japan on January 9 through major TV channels and anime platforms. The 12-episode series will be broadcast on TOKYO MX, BS11, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and will also be available globally on Crunchyroll.
The anime gained significant attention last September when Aniplex, a Sony Music Japan subsidiary, officially revealed production plans. This marks the first time Aniplex has produced a series based on a webtoon IP from a Korean music company. Renowned Japanese animation studio TROYCA has also joined the project, boosting expectations among fans. At the time, Aniplex commented that the story’s deep connection to a K-pop artist and its compelling characters gave it strong potential for expansion.
Before the full broadcast, a fan-only pre-screening will take place on the 28th at TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku in Tokyo. Attendees will be the first to watch Episodes 1 and 2 and will also have the opportunity to enjoy a stage greeting featuring ENHYPEN members and six Japanese voice actors who voice the vampire characters in the series.
HYBE stated, “The anime adaptation of ‘Dark Moon: The Blood Altar’ is significant because it represents the expansion of a K-pop-originated story IP into webtoon and anime formats, completed in Japan, the home of animation. It will offer fans a new and more vivid way to experience the world of Dark Moon.”
‘Dark Moon: The Blood Altar’ is an urban fantasy teen romance that follows seven vampire boys and one girl, and is directly connected to ENHYPEN’s music universe. With a structure in which fans can enjoy the story alongside OST recorded by ENHYPEN, the series has become popular among both K-pop fans and webtoon readers.
The webtoon surpassed 200 million views in July, and the sequel ‘Dark Moon: The Two Moons,’ released last month, quickly topped global charts, proving the growing scale of the franchise.
