BLACKPINK's Jennie makes history as the First Soloist to win ‘Record of the Year’ at the MelOn Music Awards

The '2025 Melon Music Awards (MMA)' were held on December 20 at Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro District, Seoul.

Jennie returned to the Melon Music Awards after seven years, generating enormous hype among attendees and netizens alike. She set the stage ablaze with an iconic performance and made history once again as a solo artist by taking home one of the most prestigious awards.

That day, Jennie made history in South Korea by becoming the "First and Only Soloist to win the Daesang (Grand Prize) in the Record of the Year category", marking an unprecedented achievement thanks to her work on her acclaimed solo album 'Ruby.'

During her acceptance speech, the singer, rapper, and songwriter thanked her entire team and emotionally mentioned her group BLACKPINK and her beloved fans:

"First of all, thank you for this great award. This year has been very meaningful for me. A lot has happened since the release of my first album, but I'm happy to be able to end the year on a high note. I want to thank my company OA for all their hard work; they've worked so hard, and I love them so much. I also want to thank all the staff and the 50 dancers who created the stage with me. I will continue to strive to be a Jennie who makes great music," She said. She continued, "I miss my bandmates so much, I feel a bit lonely up here. To finish, I want to say hello and thank my dear Blinks, I will always love you."

Additionally, Jennie reigned alongside her friend Rosé as the "Most Awarded Female Solo Acts at this year's MelOn Awards", each taking home a total of 3 prizes. Jennie won the awards "Record of the Year (Daesang)", "Top 10 (Bonsang)" and "Millions Top 10", while Rosé won the awards "Best Female Solo", "Top 10 (Bonsang)" and "Millions Top 10".

In March of this year, Jennie released her first solo album, "Ruby," which was hailed as the best K-pop solo album of 2025 by various specialized media outlets and received numerous positive reviews. It also dominated national and international music charts with its title track, "Like Jennie," garnering enthusiastic acclaim from listeners worldwide. All of this and more has been just the beginning of what is expected to be a long and successful solo career for the Korean superstar.
