
Singer Kangta (under SM Entertainment) has launched a new SM sub-label called SMArt and will serve as its executive producer.
SMArt aims to embrace and expand across diverse musical genres, introducing fresh and sophisticated sounds through distinctive artwork and optimized production that reinterprets K-pop as a broader cultural art form.
The label’s first artist will be Im Si Wan, whose upcoming album will mark SMArt’s debut project. The label will oversee the production and creative direction of Im Siwan’s first solo album, scheduled for release in December, followed by a global fan tour in early next year.
As one of K-pop’s first-generation idols, Kangta has long been active behind the scenes at SM. Since 2014, he has served as a non-registered director and in-house creative director at SM Entertainment. More recently, he has worked as the chief producer of SMASHHIT, one of the CICs (Company in Company) under SM’s music publishing subsidiary Kreation Music Rights (KMR). Now, with the launch of
SMArt, Kangta continues to expand his influence beyond performer to producer.
As the label’s head producer, Kangta will not only oversee artist projects but also focus on discovering and nurturing emerging songwriters. Having spent 30 years deeply dedicated to music, his next chapter with SMArt is highly anticipated.
