French-born TV personality Ida Daussy, who has lived in Korea for 35 years, recently opened up about her first marriage into a traditional Korean family.
On the November 16 broadcast of MBN's food show 'Altoran', Ida Daussy impressed the cast by revealing, "I make baechu kimchi (cabbage kimchi), kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) at home."
When g.o.d's Denny Ahn visited her home, he was surprised that it was filled with Korean-style paintings, not French decor. Ida, who is now a professor at Sookmyung Women's University, also revealed her unique twist on kimchi-making, adding herbs like thyme and rosemary to her kkakdugi for a refreshing taste.
When asked where she learned to make kimchi, Ida shared a personal story. "For 16 years, I lived with my former Korean mother-in-law. I learned so much thanks to her," she confessed.
She explained that it was a very traditional household. "I was the eldest daughter-in-law. It was a family that valued tradition, so we performed jesa (ancestral rites) five times a year."
Ida also shared the classic struggle of learning family recipes. "When it was time for kimjang (kimchi-making season), she would call me. At first, it was so hard to understand the recipes," she laughed. "You know how it is, they just say 'a little of this' and 'about that much'!" She explained that after a lot of trial and error, she finally got used to the measurements.
Ida Daussy, who divorced her first husband in 2010, remarried a French man in 2019.
