The production team behind the Disney+ series 'The Remarried Empress' has issued a formal apology after a prop resembling a Nazi medal appeared in recently released promotional materials.
Studio N, the drama’s production company, released an official statement on November 15. “We were negligent in reviewing certain costume props,” the statement read. “We sincerely apologize for the discomfort this has caused.”
The company added that the production staff “fully recognizes the seriousness of the issue,” noting that the problematic image will be replaced and that “follow-up measures will be taken to prevent a recurrence.”
Disney+ unveiled new still cuts from 'The Remarried Empress' on November 13. However, controversy arose when viewers noticed that a medal worn by actor Ju Ji Hoon, who plays Emperor Sovieshu, closely resembled the German Nazi 3rd Class Long Service Gold Medal.
'The Remarried Empress' is a romance-fantasy drama that follows Empress Navier (Shin Min Ah) of the Eastern Empire as she divorces Emperor Sovieshu and later remarries Heinrey (Lee Jong Suk), the prince of the Western Kingdom.
The series is based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name, which has garnered international acclaim. As of December last year, the original webtoon had accumulated approximately 2.6 billion global views.
'The Remarried Empress' is slated for release in the second half of next year.
