All members of NewJeans officially expressed their intention to return to their agency, ADOR. However, growing curiosity surrounds the identity of the member who is reportedly staying in Antarctica.
On November 12, ADOR released an official statement saying, “After discussions with Haerin and Hyein, they have decided to return.” Shortly after, Minji, Danielle, and Hanni also released separate statements confirming their intention to rejoin the agency.
The three members explained that the delay in communication was due to one member currently being in Antarctica. They added that because ADOR had not responded promptly, they decided to release their own statement independently. This comment quickly drew public attention, leading to widespread speculation about which member was staying in Antarctica.
Among various theories circulating online, one claim on social media gained particular attention. Some posts suggested that Danielle is in Antarctica to participate in the upcoming Antarctic Ice Marathon.
A foreign netizen shared a screenshot from the official marathon website, which lists the event date as December 13, and wrote that “Danielle is staying in Antarctica to compete in the race.” The Antarctic Ice Marathon, now in its 20th year, is well known among runners who seek extreme and rare challenges. With freezing temperatures and a difficult course, it is regarded as one of the toughest marathons in the world. The post quickly spread across online communities, fueling speculation among fans.
Danielle’s possible participation did not come as a complete surprise to some fans. She has consistently shown her passion for running. During NewJeans’ recent hiatus, Danielle joined 'Unknown Crew,' a running group founded by Korean artist Sean, and frequently shared updates about her running activities. In September, she took part in a 10-kilometer marathon in Sydney and completed the race in the 47-minute range, earning praise from fans for her impressive performance.
Meanwhile, on November 12, NewJeans announced their official return to ADOR, about one year after declaring the termination of their exclusive contracts. Although ADOR confirmed Haerin and Hyein’s return directly, Minji, Danielle, and Hanni shared separate statements around two and a half hours later. The agency later said it was “reviewing the authenticity of the three members’ intentions.”
