Annie, a member of Allday Project, has been announced as the new MC for the '2025 MBC Gayo Daejejeon', replacing Girls’ Generation’s YoonA, who held the position for the past 10 years. The news was confirmed on October 21 KST by her agency, The Black Label, drawing intense public attention.
With this appointment, Annie steps into a major spotlight, taking over from YoonA, who was widely praised for her elegant and stable hosting skills. Despite juggling idol and acting careers, YoonA anchored the year-end music show for a decade, raising expectations and curiosity over who would be chosen as her successor.
However, reactions to Annie’s selection are mixed.
Some netizens have expressed concern, saying, “It’s too heavy a responsibility for someone with little experience,” pointing to her rookie status in the industry. Many also recognize her more as the granddaughter of Shinsegae Group’s chairwoman Lee Myung Hee and the daughter of Shinsegae President Jung Yoo Kyung, rather than for her work as an idol in Allday Project. Her label as a “fourth-generation chaebol idol” has drawn criticism that her background is being highlighted more than her talent.
Others, however, welcome the decision as a refreshing change. Some praise the move for introducing a new face beyond the usual expected MC lineup. Supportive comments such as, “Everyone starts somewhere—YoonA was also a rookie once,” and “Hope she breaks free from preconceptions and proves herself through talent,” reflect a more hopeful perspective.
As eyes turn toward the upcoming event, all attention is on whether Annie can overcome the pressure of being “YoonA’s successor” and establish herself as the new face of the iconic year-end show.
