Netizens discuss whether LE SSERAFIM's 'SPAGHETTI' lyrics are effectively targeting their "haters"

Netizens are debating the lyrics of LE SSERAFIM's "SPAGHETTI."

On an online forum, netizens gathered to discuss and react to a series of X posts in which fans of LE SSERAFIM interpreted the lyrics of the group’s latest song. Featuring BTS' J-hope, the title track "SPAGHETTI" is a dance number with distinctive lines in the chorus such as "SPAGHETTI that is stuck in your teeth, do you want to take it out, bon appetit, just give up anyway, eat it up" and "LE SSERAFIM stuck in your head, bad b**** in between your teeth, just give up anyway, eat it up."

Other parts of the song include phrases like "the table that you keep coming back to as if breathing, you've become a regular, fall in love," "deeply pervades in your mouth, guilty pleasure never killed anybody, just try it," "you just say you hate it," and "try chewing it slowly and ask yourself whether or not this is true love."

Based on these lyrics, one fan on X suggested that the song is dedicated to LE SSERAFIM’s "haters," implying that the group is "not at fault if they get stuck in their minds" as a result of constant criticism.

Referencing the lyrics that ask listeners to question whether or not it’s "true love," the fan claimed that the song playfully mocks antis — suggesting that they’re actually "in love with" the group through their obsessive behavior.

Many fans in the MV’s YouTube comments section praised the song’s clever subtext, especially if it is indeed a playful jab at their "haters" and "malicious commenters," noting the irony that such people still watch all of LE SSERAFIM’s content. However, others argued that this approach "may not be the smartest concept," pointing out that the song was "still written by Bang Si Hyuk."

Supporters of the song’s interpretation as a response to antis emphasized that the lyrics highlight how those same critics continue to consume the group’s work — listening to the songs and playing the MVs — creating what they called the "sheer comedy" of seeing them "served those very lyrics" as they watch and comment.

Some interpreted the phrase "eat it up" in a positive way, suggesting it tells malicious commenters to "give up" and "admit" that they’ve grown an obsessive fondness for the group. Others noted that the English phrase "eat it up" sounds similar to a Korean expression meaning "just work," interpreting it as a message for haters to simply concentrate on "working on themselves," similar to Britney Spears’s "Work B****."

Meanwhile, critics of the song argued that its "seemingly confident" tone doesn’t necessarily reflect "true confidence," describing the group’s image as "trying too hard to seem holy" and "over-the-top marketing" — particularly since the track was "composed, written, and produced by Bang Si Hyuk."

Given the ongoing controversies surrounding the HYBE chairman, some netizens remained skeptical of LE SSERAFIM and its agency Source Music, leaving comments such as:

"Just by looking at it, you can tell the lyrics are pure Bang Si Hyuk style — scolding imaginary haters while strengthening the fans’ unity, that manipulative approach. That’s exactly the kind of sentiment Bang Si Hyuk is good at. And yes, he really did produce it," "LE SSERAFIM’s lyrics are always like this," and "If they’re thinking about expanding their fandom, they should be careful with this kind of direction. Even people who didn’t have much of an opinion before might start feeling put off... It might make the core fandom stronger, but beyond that, it’s a bad move."

However, most of the forum users dismissed those criticisms, noting that "even those comments prove the lyrics and complete the song," with many laughing it off and jokingly calling such commenters "the true lovers of LE SSERAFIM — and maybe even of Bang Si Hyuk."

Several users also shared that these "diss track"-style lyrics resonated with them personally, even if they weren’t LE SSERAFIM fans, saying that the message reflected how obsessive hate exists toward many idol groups — not just one.

Some added that the concept behind the lyrics was "probably not from Bang Si Hyuk" himself, noting that his name appeared last among the producers and referencing member Huh Yunjin’s recent livestream, where she explained that the song is about how you can grow to like something if you keep trying it — even if you disliked it at first, "like broccoli."

During the livestream, she said: "Even broccoli, which you say you hate, becomes likable if you chew it 16 times. So if a grown-up like you keeps coming to us on your own and can’t help but reach out again and again, is that really what hating looks like? Take a moment to look into your heart."

Reactions include:

"Wow, I thought the song was good, but the lyrics are insanely clever."

"The comments complete the song ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ"

"Honestly, the song is addictive and not bad at all, but that kind of fan sentiment is a bit off-putting."

"It’s not really my style, but I like that it’s such a fun song. Reading the triggered comments adds the finishing touchㅋㅋㅋㅋ Watching LE SSERAFIM get all kinds of hate again makes me end up supporting them even though I’m not a fanㅋㅋ"

"The more people get triggered and lash out, the tastier the spaghetti gets — how do they not get that?"

"Since ‘ANTIFRAGILE’, it’s been a recurring modern art piece where the haters complete the song. As for Bang, if he’s done something wrong, he’ll face it — not my business. Just stop dragging it in here."

"The comments are literally completing the lyricsㅋㅋㅋㅋ"

"They debuted under a company with endless money and backing, then tried to pull a forced ‘overcoming hardship’ storyline like BTS, copied pop songs for attention, and got hate for their vocals and all that… and now that they’ve created the haters they wanted so badly, it’s like their story finally feels justifiedㅋㅋ"

"Oh… so this is a song you can literally watch being completed through the comments."

"A flawless piece, even down to the comment sectionㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Guys, that’s actually loveㅠㅋ"

"They’ve been talking about haters since debutㅋㅋ Since Bang wrote and composed it, it’s basically him saying, ‘Even if I manipulate stocks, I’m still a genius,’ kind of vibe."

"I mean, I said this one felt a bit weaker after listening to all their songs so far, and I got scolded hard by LE SSERAFIM fansㅠㅠ I was so startled."

"Wow, I was wondering why ‘spaghetti’ was mentioned — thought it was something unsanitary at first ㅠㅠ Glad it wasn’t that kind of meaning."

"When I dislike something, I block everything and never look it up again. But these people keep watching, hate it, then come here to rant — that’s love, honestly."

"The song’s not greatㅠ"

"The song’s amazing and the lyrics are funㅋㅋㅋ Seeing people still freaking out in this thread because they want to hate so badly is scary; go live your own lives, people..."

"It reminds me of ‘KATSEYE’s gnarly kind of concept"

"I watched the MV right when it dropped, and usually, people would just leave simple impressions, but these folks were typing out paragraphs about the lyrics, asking what it means, even tracking down Bang Si Hyuk. It’s fascinating."

"I recognized it the moment I heard it — the metaphor is so obvious. How can anyone not get it?"

"Seems like a lot of people got caught by the spaghetti line. I went to a music show yesterday and heard it live for the first time — just thought, ‘Oh, cool concept,’ and moved on. Didn’t even know Bang Si Hyuk was involved until nowㅋㅋ I get that something can annoy you, but it’s wild how much time some people spend hating — reading the comments here makes me think the lyrics are actually pretty sharp."

"The lyrics are witty and so funㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Even as a fan of another group, it felt refreshing."

"Oh, so it was another song about haters again."

"Work, work° •°(°`ㅁ´ °)°• °"

"I thought it was about finding a good spaghetti restaurantㅋㅋㅋ"

"I’m a fan of another group, but I listened to this while imagining my own idols insteadㅋㅋㅋ"

"‘Today, it’s you who came running to me again’ — seriously, that lyric hits hardㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ It’s exactly what I want to say to the crazed antis of my own group."
