Singer and television personality Lee Hyori spoke candidly about recent speculation surrounding her relationship with fellow artist IU, putting an end to rumors of discord.
In a video released on October 25 through the YouTube channel pinggyego, Lee Hyori appeared with her husband Lee Sang Soon and celebrity couple Hong Hyun Hee and Jasson. During their cheerful conversation, the topic of gift-giving led to humorous exchanges and heartfelt moments.
Jasson mentioned that Lee Sang Soon recently sent him a box of premium apple mangoes. Lee Hyori jokingly signaled Yoo Jae Suk not to mention he hadn’t received any, prompting Yoo to laugh and say, “It’s fine. I got plenty of other things last time.” Hyori then revealed that her husband had been worried about the oversight. “He kept asking if it was okay to appear on 'pinggyego' after forgetting to send mangoes to Jae Suk,” she said.
Yoo Jae Suk responded playfully, “Sang Soon, do you really think I’d say I hope you don’t come just because of mangoes?” The banter continued as Jasson recalled receiving a coffee machine from Lee Sang Soon previously. Yoo jokingly expressed mock jealousy, saying, “Listening to Jasson brag like this stirs something deep inside me. I mean, Hyori and Sang Soon go way back.” Hong Hyun Hee added with a smile, “Looks like you didn’t make it onto this year’s gift list.”
Lee Hyori explained that a friend runs a mango farm in Jeju Island. She said the fruit is so delicious that she buys nearly an entire section each year to gift to people she appreciates. Lee Sang Soon added, “Sometimes we assume certain people will be taken care of by others, so they naturally fall off our list.”
Hyori then expressed sincere gratitude to those who consistently think of her. “Not many people go out of their way to send me gifts, but there are a few who always do. I’m especially thankful to the Hong-Jasson couple, Yoo Jae Suk, and IU.”
Her mention of IU was particularly meaningful, as it comes amid renewed online speculation about a possible rift between the two stars. Lee Hyori and IU first bonded in 2017 through the JTBC reality show 'Hyori’s Homestay,' where Hyori offered IU heartfelt advice and mentorship. Their warm dynamic won viewers’ hearts, and Hyori later appeared as a guest at IU’s concert, reinforcing their close friendship.
However, in recent years, the lack of public interaction between the two led to rumors of estrangement. Some fans questioned Hyori’s absence from IU’s concerts, especially when other celebrities like Yoo Jae Suk and aespa’s Winter were seen attending.
