Actress Seo Yoo Jung recently opened up about her divorce.
The actress uploaded a video on her YouTube channel on October 7, sharing details and the story behind her divorce. Seo Yoo Jung married a finance professional three years her senior in 2017 and gave birth to their daughter in 2019. However, she shocked fans when she revealed that she had divorced in 2023.
In the latest video, Seo shared, "Marriage and divorce, these are stories I've kept inside for a long time. On TV, I was always smiling, but behind the smile were years of holding on with my young daughter, Song Yi. There were times when people's gazes felt overwhelming, but now I live as a stronger version of myself - a woman and a mother shaped by all these experiences. In this video, I'm finally able to talk about it for the first time."
She continued to share and looked back on her life in Songdo. She said, "I lived here for four years. It was a nice place, but it holds painful memories for me. Song Yi was born during the COVID-19 period, and after we moved, I had no friends. Everywhere I went, I would see families - mom, dad, with their child - while it was just me and Song Yi."
Regarding her divorce, she explained why the marriage fell apart. She explained, "We had nothing in common. We thought differently about everything. When you're young, you don't know much, so you just try to make things work somehow. But as you get older, you become more stubborn and set in your ways. Looking back, I realize we were still immature back then."
She also mentioned her appearance on TV Chosun's reality show 'Taste of Wife' in 2018, saying, "I wanted to show the ups and downs of our marriage on the show, to see what we did wrong and reflect on our actions. But there were restrictions; we were only allowed to show an image that was beautiful and perfect. I wanted to show the real side of us, even the arguments, but that wasn't possible at the time."
Seo revealed that the couple began living separately when her daughter was about eight to nine months old. She said, "My ex-husband would sometimes come home once every two weeks, sometimes not at all. Even so, we staged together for two more years. It was hard to adjust. I was full of resentment, and it made me suffer. When you harbor that much resentment toward your child's father, it's hard to speak kindly about him to your daughter. That was painful for me."
She finally revealed how she came to make peace with her ex-husband and explained, "I tried to think, 'He's not a bad person; our timing just didn't match.' Now I just hope he'll be a good father to our daughter. That's all that matters. I'm focusing on doing my best for Song Yi."
The video resonated deeply with viewers, as Seo candidly shared her private struggles and personal growth—stories she had never shown on TV. She concluded, "I've been through hard times, but now I've become stronger, both as a mother and as a person."
