A well-known YouTuber with 1.65 million subscribers, identified only as “A,” has been arrested after allegedly refusing a police-administered breathalyzer test and attempting to flee the scene.
Speculation online suggests the figure may be YouTuber SangHyuk (real name Kwon Sang Hyuk), though no official confirmation has been made.
According to Seoul Songpa Police, the incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. on September 21 in Songpa District, Seoul. Police responded to a report of suspected drunk driving and pursued A’s vehicle. A allegedly abandoned his car and ran approximately 300 meters before being apprehended. Despite repeated requests, he refused to undergo a breathalyzer test and was arrested on the spot for violating the Road Traffic Act.
Following reports of the arrest, online communities and social media erupted with speculation that the suspect is SangHyuk, a popular content creator best known for mukbang (eating show) videos. SangHyuk has not released any official statement regarding the allegations.
Meanwhile, SangHyuk’s recent social media posts have been flooded with hostile comments, with users demanding clarification. Comments include: “Was it really drunk driving?”, “Getting arrested as a current offender is shocking,” and “At least give an explanation.”
SangHyuk began his career on AfreecaTV in 2018 before rising to prominence in 2019 through appearances at Seoul Fashion Week and in advertising campaigns, including a commercial for Narangd Cider. He has since built a large following on YouTube with food-related content.
