TXT's Beomgyu recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the latest KakaoTalk update.
On September 28, Beomgyu expressed his thoughts on the KakaoTalk redesign while interacting with fans on the fan community platform Weverse. He said, "Why does the KakaoTalk update do whatever it wants?" adding, "I hate sudden changes the most, and this update is really awful." He continued, "I don't know if it's okay to say this, but it's really not good. If you're going to change the app with an update like this, shouldn't there be a feature to revert to the previous version? I'm someone who generally likes analogue things, so having so many things change at once is difficult."
Beomgyu added, "I could understand if it were an update adding something truly groundbreaking. But instead, it's made harder to use, with only unnecessary features added. I unconsciously frowned when I saw the updated interface." He especially highlighted his discomfort, saying, "I don't care about other people's profiles at all, but now they're displayed like a gallery."
Despite his frustrations, Beomgyu concluded, "I’ll stop being angry here. It seems like no one has a positive opinion about this update, so I wonder who it’s actually for. But since the developers might be watching, I’ll say this: it’s impressive that you keep creating new features and updating for users. Thank you always for your hard work."
Earlier, Kakao carried out a full redesign of KakaoTalk on September 23, 15 years after its initial launch.
However, users have continued to voice complaints, saying that "old photos are exposed, and you’re forced to see other people’s unwanted photos," leading to frustration. Kakao has announced plans to release improvements soon, but with certain ad contracts already tied to specific sizes and positions, it remains to be seen how much consumer convenience and demand will actually be reflected.
