We don’t really see school-based concepts anymore, but they were all the rage with second and third-generation idols. So, with many students going back to school, here are seven groups that pulled off the school-based concepts.
1. EXO
An icon when it comes to school-based concepts. Who can ever forget the frenzy that ‘Growl’ produced, and it just wasn’t the song; the grey uniform school look was just the cherry on top.
2. GFriend
It wasn’t just their knife-like choreography that GFriend became known for, but it was also the fact that they perfectly executed the innocent, youthful yet empowering vibe of high schoolers. From the outfits to the stage performances, each one really captured the essence of the vibrant parts of being a high schooler.
3. Lovelyz
It’s such a shame that Lovelyz didn’t get more attention, considering their entire concept was school-based. The preppy school uniform stage features outfits, light makeup, and straight hair. Nothing screams 'school' more than these qualities.
4. Seventeen
Seventeen is known for their chaotic energy, so it’s no surprise that when they released “Mansae” back in 2015, this era had them rocking playful uniform looks, capturing the vibes of a class clown. Who doesn’t love a class clown, they’re sociable, lovable, and of course charming!
5. After School
The group’s concept as a whole was entirely something new for members who would ‘graduate’ upon exiting the group. Additionally, After School was one of the groups that didn’t fear experimenting with their stages, just like how, when you’re in school, it’s the time of your life when you try everything and anything to see where your passion lies.
6. Apink
One of the most iconic schoolgirl concepts of the second generation of idols, you cannot forego Apink’s My My era. Fresh-faced visuals and the sweet, uniform-style outfits are everything.
7. Girls’ Generation
The sporty school style was entirely a novelty, but count on Girls’ Generation to make it one of the first girl groups to really jumpstart the school-girl concept.
