Recently, popular Korean influencer Hong Young Gi has sparked a debate online after talking about her premarital pregnancy at 20.
In a recent episode of the YouTube variety show 'Pajamster Party,' Hong Young Gi opened up about becoming pregnant at the young age of 20. When asked how she felt upon learning she was pregnant at a young age, Hong admitted, "Honestly, the only thought I had was 'I'm f***ed'." She continued to share, "I was terrified to tell my parents, but when I told my dad, he just said, 'Okay, I understand. It's fine.' My mom, who was a devout Christian, didn't come out of her room for three days."
The point of the debate was not about the influencer becoming pregnant at age 20, but her husband's younger age sparked much discussion.

During the video, Hong Young Gi revealed, "My husband was still in high school back then, and I was at the peak of my career." She explained that her mother-in-law was devastated and said, "From her perspective, her son got someone pregnant while still in high school, of course, it devastated her. But no persuasion worked on me. Life itself is precious, so I knew I had to give birth. I felt it wasn't even my choice."
As for her husband's reaction, she said, "He was simply happy. I was the only one suffering and worrying back then."
Meanwhile, Hong was born in 1992 and became pregnant in 2012 at the age of 20. Her husband, Lee Se Yong, was born in 1995 and was only 17 years old at the time and attended high school.
Korean netizens were divided over this. While some commended the couple for taking responsibility, some pointed out her husband was underage at the time of her pregnancy and would've been a bigger issue if the gender were switched.
They commented:
"At least Hong Young Gi was financially stable when it happened."
"From the start, Hong Young Gi was already earning money as a teen and taking responsibility like the head of the household, so criticizing her now is kind of silly."
"If the genders were reversed, people would’ve gone crazy…"
"Eh…???? Really? Whoa…."
"Um... with a high schooler?"
"Oh… I thought they were only a year apart in age, but there’s more of a gap."
"So they started dating when she was in high school and when he was in middle school? um... that's... yeah."
"She took responsibility and did well, that’s what matters."
"Yeah, Hong Young Gi has had multiple controversies, but the fact that she’s still working fine as an influencer is surprising."
"Yeah, it was shocking back then, too. But I remember thinking, at least she’s responsible."
"Yeah, it was a big topic back then, too, but the general opinion was that it was fortunate she was capable financially. And since she’s still doing well now, people just accept it."
"I don’t like big age gaps either, but there’s no need to imagine 'what if genders were reversed' because that already happens countless times in real life."
"The premarital pregnancy is not really a big problem. It's just she was an adult and he was underage."
"They took responsibility and are still married, so I don't think it's a problem."
"Wow, I can’t wrap my head around this… pregnant with a minor just isn’t right."
"I don’t really care about premarital pregnancy, but the adult-minor thing bothers me. lol."
"It was a huge issue at the time, too."
"Not sure if it's something she should talk so openly about, lol."
"If the girl were underage and the guy were an adult, it would've been a bigger issue."
