A man in his 30s has been sentenced to prison for breaking into the home of entertainer Park Na Rae (40) and stealing valuables worth tens of millions of won.
On the morning of September 3rd KST, the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Park Ji Won) sentenced a 37-year-old man surnamed Jung to two years in prison for theft and nighttime home invasion. Jung was charged with entering Park’s residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul alone on April 4th and stealing high-value items before fleeing. He also attempted to sell some of the stolen goods.
Jung reportedly claimed he did not know it was Park Na Rae’s home at the time of the burglary. He had previously been caught committing another theft in a different home in Yongsan in late March.
The court explained its sentencing by stating: “The defendant has admitted to the charges and expressed an intent to turn himself in to the Yongsan Police Station. Additionally, the stolen goods have been returned to the victim. However, the court considered the defendant’s prior criminal record, the fact that he committed the crime while under probation, the high value of the stolen items, and the victim’s request for strict punishment.”
The court also issued fines to two individuals, referred to as A and B, who were prosecuted for receiving stolen property through negligence. A was fined 2 million KRW(~1,400 USD) and B was fined 3 million KRW(~2,100 USD). The court noted: “We considered the absence of prior offenses, the degree of negligence, and the market value of the items involved.”
