Netizens are reacting enthusiastically to the finale of 'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.'

On an online forum, viewers gathered to discuss the last episode of tvN's hit drama, which aired on the night of September 28 KST. For those who followed the series until the very end, the closing storyline and its atmosphere caught many by surprise, while still leaving most with a positive impression overall.

According to fans, the ending of 'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' could be summed up in one image: an animation of a global world where everyone is portrayed as 'happy,' 'carefree,' 'relaxed,' and 'unworried,' bordering on an almost irresponsible attitude.

This meme spread quickly because of how the story wrapped up. The drama ended with the sudden appearance of the male lead Lee Heon in the modern era, without offering the audience any explanation of how he managed to cross time from the 1500s.

After showing Lee Heon’s painful parting with the female lead Yeon Ji Young, the finale simply concluded with the two reunited in a contemporary setting, sharing a meal he prepared himself.

Viewers highlighted this aspect on X:

"She says, 'You won’t believe it, but he came from the 1500s. How did he get here, you ask? That doesn’t matter. What matters is that we met again.' But we are saying, 'Is it really ending like this?' I mean, what I really want to know is HOW this younger tyrant even got here. How did he manage to show up in a suit, with a fresh haircut, adapting perfectly all at once—that’s what I want to know!!!!"

"How did Lee Heon arrive in the modern world? How did Lee Heon obtain a modern identity? How did Lee Heon afford a suit? Is it even possible for someone from the Joseon era to cut their hair like that? And yet, the drama ended without telling us a single thing..."

"But this is the most important point in a time-slip romance: How exactly did he cross through time and space? How did he endure all those years of longing? That’s the real fun of it."

"No, it matters, Ji Young. No, it really matters, Your Highness. How Lee Heon came to the modern world is SO important, Ji Young. How Lee Heon found Yeon Ji Young—why is that a secret? That’s just as important, Your Highness. Why, why is it like this!!!"

Because the finale left major explanations unresolved, many fans described the ending as an 'absurd happy ending,' labeling the drama a 'B-drama' (like a B-movie). Still, many admitted they were satisfied simply because the two leads were shown together and happy.

Some viewers, however, were more critical of the parting scene in the last episode, pointing out an 'immature' CGI and questioning the performance of actor Lee Chae Min.

Even so, the majority still expressed contentment with the ending, particularly enjoying Lee Heon and Yeon Ji Young’s reunion. Many also praised Lee Chae Min’s appearance in the modern-day setting, noting his sharp visuals and styling.

Additional reactions included:

"I liked it more because it was a happy ending and Lee Heon didn’t reincarnate—he came as himself."

"Still, I’m satisfied everyone ended up in the future lol."

"But it was fun."

"Happy ending, happy happy, as long as it was fun lol."

"Turns out my taste was B-grade lol, but I enjoyed it."

"As long as the two of them are happy, it’s OK."

"The ending was a bit funny, but as long as it was fun, it’s fine."

"An ending is an ending, just accept it lol."

"It was absurd but I feel good lol. Usually if a drama has a bad ending, I get annoyed that I wasted time, but this one didn’t make me feel that way. I just thought, well, the female lead is happy, so that’s enough."

"Ridiculous… maybe because the episodes were too short, it felt nonsensical."

"I should’ve stopped watching last week."

"It’s just the writer’s lack of skill. Unlike the 'Kpop Demon Hunters' opening, they didn’t have the drive to force the story in a way people could accept, nor did they give any clues for viewers to imagine. Just saying ‘Secrets~ not important~’ makes it really disappointing for those who watched with love."

"A ‘we won’t tell you’ ending lol."

"The last episode was so cringey I couldn’t finish it."

"The quality… even the acting fell apart."

"Ah ㅠㅠ I really didn’t like it."

"The acting was weird."

"The male lead’s acting was even more shocking."

"Ah, but he’s just handsome."

"He looked so damn good in it."

"A brand-new type of an avoidant ending that doesn’t tell you the most important thing… so unfaithful."

"Honestly the ending was a mess, but from the start I was just watching for dumb fun, so whatever. I’m just thinking, as long as they’re happy, it’s fine lol."

"Writer negligence."

"This is all because the Chinese envoy episodes dragged on too long. If they had cut even one episode…"

"That line sounded like the writer’s excuse, but I still felt good it wasn’t sad or reincarnation."

"If it was going to be like this, wouldn’t a sad ending have been better?"

"Give us a special episode lol. I want to see the king shocked after coming to the modern world lol."

"It’s really not unimportant lol."

"First time seeing a ‘we won’t tell you’ ending in a drama…"

"I’ve never seen an ending like this before."

"At least it’s better than ‘it was all a dream,’ right?"

"They just couldn’t write the story lol. If they didn’t have time, they shouldn’t have put in those lines and just added scenes that hinted at it. They simply couldn’t write."

"An avoidant ending lololololololol."

"The production team actually made a clever choice lol. When it’s hard to explain, they just brushed it off with ‘the 'how' is not that important’ lol. Better than a ridiculous twist ending, but still, they brushed it off so much it was a bit frustrating lol. Basically made viewers turn a blind eye lol."

"Feels like a short-form drama ending."

"How is this a happy ending? It’s just an avoidance ending."

"Totally satisfied with the modern-day scenes, and hey, it was still a happy ending lol."

"Anyway, I liked it."

"It was fun lol. It was a comedy drama anyway lol."

"Still, it was fun all the way to the end lol, and that’s enough."
