Netflix's original survival variety show series 'The Devil's Plan' is set to return with season 3. While its second installment, 'The Devil’s Plan: Death Room,' received mixed reviews that left the possibility of a sequel uncertain, the show’s producer has now directly confirmed new production plans.

On September 2, producer Jung Jong Yeon officially announced the production of 'The Devil’s Plan 3' during the 'Netflix Variety Festival 2025' held at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul.

'The Devil’s Plan' is a Netflix original variety show directed by Jung Jong Yeon, known for 'The Genius,' 'Society Game,' 'Great Escape,' and 'High School Mystery Club,' after he joined Kim Tae Ho’s production company TEO. The first season premiered in September 2023.

Set in an isolated location where participants from different backgrounds compete through games over seven days to determine the ultimate winner, The Devil’s Plan was described as "a boarding-house version of 'The Genius'" and generated buzz upon release. Featuring notable contestants such as science YouTuber Orbit and actors Ha Seok Jin and Lee Si Won, the first season wrapped up with a generally positive reception.

However, 'The Devil’s Plan: Death Room,' released about a year and eight months later as a second season concept, drew more divided responses. The show faced criticism from some viewers who felt that the blind sacrifices and resignation of certain contestants, seemingly working to spotlight particular players, reduced the sense of survival and entertainment value. After the finale aired, several contestants faced ongoing negative comments online, leading one agency to announce possible legal action.

Acknowledging the backlash, Jung stated at the festival that the show
"faced a lot of criticism." Still, he emphasized that there were stories left to be told, which motivated the decision to move forward with another season.

Surprising attendees with the Season 3 announcement, Jung said, "It was a program that received both a lot of support and a lot of criticism." He added, "I felt there are still stories worth exploring. When I asked myself whether it could be better or more entertaining than the previous season, I thought the answer was yes, so we decided to produce Season 3."

Meanwhile, Jung also revealed plans for a new season of the adventure mystery variety show 'Agents of Mystery,' which was released in June 2024. The show follows a six-member team that tackles unusual cases, with past cast members including Lee Yong Jin, John Park, Lee Eun Ji, Hyeri, Kim Do Hoon, and Karina of aespa.
