Min Hee Jin is actively pursuing legal action against netizens who have posted defamatory comments online. Partnering with SK Law Firm, she has engaged legal representative Choi Kyu Ho, known for his expertise in handling “malicious comment” lawsuits.

According to documents obtained by Dispatch, Min Hee Jin’s legal team has filed complaints against commenters who included insults such as “b***h” in posts related to her. The claims seek compensation of 3–4 million KRW (about $2,300–$3,100) per comment.

The lawsuit cites: "The defendants insulted Min Hee Jin, infringing on her personal rights, and seriously damaged her credibility and social reputation. Therefore, the commenters are obligated to financially compensate for the mental distress caused."

Examples of comments targeted in the lawsuits include: “Greedy X, finally realized it,” “The X swearing at the press conference is insane,” “Not an ordinary X,” and “I worry about the person living with someone like that.” Each of these cases sought damages of around 4 million KRW (about $3,100).

However, Min Hee Jin’s team included language in the complaints allowing for settlements at any time. They left a phone number with a statement: “We are willing to discuss an amicable settlement.” Dispatch contacted one defendant, A, who explained: “The settlement started from at least 2 million KRW (about $1,540). They wouldn’t accept less. Some people settled to avoid police investigation.”

The courts have imposed fines ranging from 50,000 KRW to 300,000 KRW (about $38–$230) on the commenters. Examples include: “S**t X” (50,000 KRW /about $38), “Three-letter X” (100,000 KRW /about $77), and “Someone who betrayed once will betray again” (200,000 KRW /about $154).

Some comments were dismissed, as they were deemed not defamatory, such as: “Cunning X,” “You encounter these X people in life,” and “I am X, indeed.” The courts ruled that these remarks were too mild to warrant compensation.

Min Hee Jin’s legal actions are expected to continue, with further rulings to follow. Nevertheless, critics have raised concerns about the perception of “settlement profiteering” in such cases.
