Musical actor and singer Junsu(XIA) is making a highly anticipated return to the stage in the lead role of 'Beetlejuice'. On September 24th KST, the production team officially unveiled the cast for the new Korean run of the Broadway hit, with Junsu reprising the titular role of 'Beetlejuice' — the mischievous, centuries-old ghost and chaotic afterlife guide.
Based on Tim Burton’s iconic film of the same name, 'Beetlejuice' tells the darkly comedic story of a ghost couple who haunt their former home in an effort to scare away a new family — ultimately summoning the unpredictable and outrageous Beetlejuice for help.
The musical was critically acclaimed on Broadway, earning eight Tony Award nominations in 2019, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score. It made its Korean debut in 2021 to widespread acclaim, celebrated for its catchy numbers and magical stage direction.
The new production promises even more spectacle, with aerial stunts, pyrotechnics, and oversized puppetry returning to captivate audiences. Alongside Kim Junsu, actors Jeong Won Young and Jeong Sung Hwa will also play the role of 'Beetlejuice' in alternating performances.
Other key cast members include:
- Lydia, the new family’s curious daughter: Hong Na Hyun and Jang Min Jae
- Charles, Lydia’s father: Kim Yong Soo and Kim Dae Ryeong
- Adam, the ghost husband: Lee Yul and Jung Wook Jin
- Barbara, the ghost wife: Park Hye Mi and Na Ha Na
- Delia, Lydia’s eccentric life coach: Jeon Soo Mi and Yoon Gong Ju
The Korean production of Beetlejuice will officially open on December 16 at LG Arts Center Seoul.
