On MBN’s variety show 'GabojaGO' (Season 5) aired on September 13, 2025 KST, Jang Hyuk and Park Joon Hyung of god shared frank memories that had audiences laughing and tearing up in turn. Hosts Ahn Jung Hwan and Hong Hyun Hee visited Jang Hyuk’s home in Songpa-gu, where his tastefully organized living space—from a display of genre-sorted DVDs to figures and trophies—drew admiration.

Asked about first impressions, Park Joon Hyung said of Jang Hyuk, “He was incredibly handsome, like someone out of a pure-romance comic—yet a bit forlorn, like a puppy after a breakup.” Jang Hyuk answered in kind: “He looked like a healthy, cool American, but as time passed he became a sad American who couldn’t eat enough.”

Park Joon Hyung reflected on his earliest days in Korea: “When I first came, I weighed about 89–91 kg, and a year and a half later I was down to 63 kg.” Jang Hyuk added context: “That kind of weight loss wasn’t unusual—everyone lost weight together. A friend of his who deejayed, nicknamed Heong, learned his first Korean as ‘I’m hungry, please give me rice.’” Park Joon Hyung recalled, “One day Heong was eating something—he’d turned a shrimp-flavored snack into a porridge.”

The two also reminisced about scraping by: “Once a month we’d go eat meat. The owner lent us money and told us to pay it back by eating there; they called us a ‘locust swarm’ because we ate so much,” they said. “People would disappear one by one—to the restroom to throw up—so they could eat more, not knowing when we’d be able to come back.”

Turning to god’s debut, Park Joon Hyung revealed industry headwinds: “Our company didn’t pay the dorm’s electric bill. Later they said they didn’t believe they could make us successful and hoped we’d leave. But six months later we were still there, so they released our album—and it worked.” On the origin of god’s signature song 'To Mother', he shared childhood memories: “In the U.S., racism was severe and I got beaten up almost every day. My mom, working at an office, would share lunch with other Koreans—sometimes japchae wrapped in foil—and give it to me. Kids spat on it and called it worms because of the noodles. I told Park Jin Young that story, and he wrote 'To Mother' from it.”

When asked why he became known for action, Jang Hyuk joked, “I was supposed to go the romance route,” then touched on his trainee days with Jun Ji Hyun: “She’s like a kid sister to me. Back then the only rookies were me and Jun Ji Hyun, so we practiced acting together.” He traced his shift to action to an incident on the film 'The Best': “A stunt performer wearing my costume got hurt during a take. Seeing someone else down on the ground because of my scene made me feel sorry. After about twenty minutes he got up and nailed it—that’s when I thought, ‘That’s what a pro is,’ and ‘I should be responsible for my own marks.’ So I started training seriously.”

Clarifying his stance, Jang Hyuk added: “It’s not that I never use doubles. I do everything I can, but leads have a responsibility to carry the rest of the cast. If I get hurt, who carries them?”
