Former 4Minute member Nam Jihyun, now an actress and barre instructor, recently reflected on 4Minute's disbandment in 2016.
4Minute gained attention in 2009 with their debut song "Hot Issue," and went on to release numerous hit songs, including "Muzik," "What's Your Name?", "Whatcha Doin' Today?", "Crazy," and "Hate." However, they failed to survive the "seven year curse" and disbanded in 2016, on their seventh anniversary.
The disbandment of a successful girl group is often followed by suspicions of discord, and 4Minute was no exception. Rumors were further sparked by the members unfollowing each other on social media, as well as their notable absence from HyunA's wedding in October of last year.
However, on June 19th, Nam Jihyun personally prepared bouquets for HyunA, Jeon Ji Yoon, Heo Ga Yoon, and Kwon So Hyun to commemorate their 16th debut anniversary, indirectly quelling any discord rumors. HyunA also shared a photo of Jihyun's bouquet, and reminisced about their group days, saying, "We were so beautiful."
Today, Jihyun candidly addressed the rumors. She stated, "Back then, I thought things would be difficult to endure because each member had a very different personality. But we all adapted to each other. I can see that now, and I'm grateful for all the past hardships. That's why I sent them flowers for our 16th anniversary."
She continued, "During those days, I thought I was the only one struggling, but I eventually realized, 'The other members must have had a hard time too,' and 'They've had to cope too.' Why didn't I see that back then?"
Jihyun reflected on how the group dealt with disagreements: "Even when there were misunderstandings, we tried to be considerate of each other. Sometimes HyunA and the other members all had different opinions, and it wasn't a big deal to openly discuss things. But when our contracts ended, we respected each other's paths and parted ways... We were all kind to each other. Even now, we're still really close," reinforcing their strong friendship that remains despite the passage of time.
Addressing fans' hopes for a full-group reunion one day, Jihyun said that she would love to reunite for a comeback. "I feel like I wasn't able to fully demonstrate my talents back then because there were a lot of constraints put on me... Wouldn't it be great if I had the opportunity to show my more mature side to fans who have grown older with me?"
