Singer and actress Nam Gyu Ri has opened up about why her former group SeeYa was unable to reunite.
On August 18th KST, Nam Gyu Ri appeared on the 1theK Originals YouTube channel, where she addressed rumors and shared her side of the story.
While reviewing her profile on the Korean online encyclopedia Namuwiki, she brought up the topic of SeeYa’s attempted reunion.
Nam Gyu Ri debuted as a member of SeeYa in 2006 and gained popularity through hit songs like “Scent of a Woman” and “Crazy Love Song.” However, she effectively withdrew from the group in 2009 due to issues surrounding her agency.
In 2020, the members appeared together on JTBC’s ‘Two Yoo Project: Sugar Man 3’ and hinted at a full-group comeback, but the reunion ultimately fell through. Nam Gyu Ri confessed that the experience left her deeply traumatized, even to the point of contemplating retirement.
“The reunion process wasn’t easy,” she said. “We hadn’t addressed the past issues properly, and it prevented us from moving forward together. But after our appearance on ‘Sugar Man,’ we received more love than expected. I realized how many people still missed us and truly wanted to give something back.”
She went on to reveal that producer Cho Young Soo had written a song for them at the time. “There was a track, kind of like a sequel to "Greeting of Love.’"The chorus alone was revised over 30 times. We recorded and practiced it—but then, without us knowing, the song was handed over to another artist. I think that’s when everything started to fall apart.”
Reflecting on the experience, she added, “Maybe things would have been different if we had stuck together more strongly. But I still believe we’ll reunite someday. We failed to come back together then, and that’s on us. We regret it—and for the fans, we will make it happen.”
She also admitted that she’s no longer in touch with the other members. “I see how they’re doing through YouTube. It hurts. I heard Yeonji had to undergo vocal cord nodule surgery twice, and I thought about sending her something good for her throat. But I couldn’t find the courage.”
