
Moon Ga Young’s popularity and fan support are extending worldwide, with the actress recently visiting Malaysia as one of the key figures behind the global success of the drama ‘Seocho-dong’.
The tvN weekend drama, which ended on August 10th KST, recorded a nationwide average rating of 7.7% and a peak of 8.9%, marking its highest ratings yet. Over 12 episodes, the story of young associate lawyers kept audiences deeply engaged. Taking on her first-ever lawyer role as Kang Hee Ji, Moon Ga Young earned praise for her stable acting and delicate emotional delivery.
Thanks in part to her performance, ‘Seocho-dong’ enjoyed significant success not only in Korea but also across global platforms. On Rakuten Viki, it ranked in the Top 5 most-watched dramas in over 150 countries and regions, including the United States, Brazil, France, the United Arab Emirates, and India. It also secured top rankings on Disney+, Japan’s U-Next, and Taiwan’s iQIYI and Friday. In Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines, the drama ranked No. 1 in its timeslot, becoming the best-performing CJ ENM drama of 2025.
Riding this momentum, ‘Seocho-dong’ hosted a fan event and press conference in Malaysia, one of Asia’s fastest-growing markets, on August 10th and 11th to coincide with the finale. Upon arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Moon Ga Young was greeted by a large crowd of fans despite the late hour, to whom she expressed her gratitude with smiles and waves.
On the first day, August 10th, she attended the Star Tour screening event and a red carpet ceremony at the main entrance of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, drawing over 20,000 fans—the largest turnout for a K-drama event in Malaysian history. Moon Ga Young signed drama posters, posed for photos with fans’ smartphones, and actively engaged with attendees. The event, filled with cheers and excitement, drew coverage from local media as well as international outlets such as Singapore and Hong Kong press, and the U.S. entertainment magazine Variety.
The following day, August 11th, a press conference was held for local and global media, with around 50 major outlets in attendance. At the event, Moon Ga Young said, “Being able to watch the final episode in another country is a precious and special opportunity that will remain a good memory. I’m truly grateful for all the love you’ve shown for ‘Seocho-dong’,” expressing heartfelt thanks to global viewers.
With the drama’s journey concluded amid enthusiastic global support, Moon Ga Young will soon embark on an Asia fan meeting tour to spend special moments with fans. She is also preparing to greet audiences on the big screen through the upcoming film ‘If We Were’ and is set to continue her diverse activities in the latter half of the year.
