Annie opened up about the busy life she led and the efforts she put in before debuting with ALLDAY PROJECT.
On August 5, Annie appeared as a special guest alongside Tarzzan on the YouTube variety show 'Salon Drip 2,' hosted by Jang Do Yeon on channel TEO. On this day, Annie revealed her journey to debut.
When Jang Do Yeon asked about how she met with THE BLACK LABEL's Teddy and became part of ALLDAY PROJECT, Annie recalled, "I've always had an urge to follow what 2NE1 and Big Bang did (ever since I was little)." She continued, "Whenever a song came out, since 'Lollipop' came out. That's when 2NE1 first appeared. I always had to do CL's part. So I'd tell my younger sister (to do the other members' parts)."
Annie also confessed that she had to convince her parents to allow her to become a singer. She shared, "When I first brought up (wanting to become a singer), they didn't take me seriously. They thought it was a phase. Like a passing wind." She continued, "Whenever I brought it up, they'd say it'll pass like a passing wind."
Jang Do Yeon then brought up the sensitive topic of how Annie was selected for the group. Jang Do Yeon said, "A lot of people assume that because of your background, the label reached out to you first." Annie responded and clarified that she had auditioned.
She elaborated, "I actually auditioned to get into THE BLACK LABEL. And I was a trainee and joined the group after." Annie further explained the hard work she had to put in. Annie, at the time, was studying abroad and explained the process. She shared, "I wasn't able to train in Korea at the time. So my lessons would be online, and I'd have to film myself performing and send it to get feedback. That's who I trained."
Annie added, "I did that for four years. When I would come to Korea on vacation, I'd go to the company to practice." Jang Do Yeon was impressed with Annie's dedication and praised, "You're very determined."
Meanwhile, Annie had garnered much attention even before her debut as the granddaughter of Shinsegae Group's chairwoman, Lee Myung Hee, and the eldest daughter of Shinsegae's president, Jung Yoo Kyung.
