Actor Kwak Do Won is returning to activities after a three-year hiatus, making a comeback to the entertainment industry with the musical 'A Streetcar Named Desire.'
According to the music industry, on August 5, Kwak Do Won will be appearing in the production of 'A Streetcar Named Desire' at the National Theater's Daloreum Theater on October 9-10.
Originally released in 1974, the play brought playwright Tennessee Williams both the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award and the Pulitzer Prize. The story, which was also adapted into a film, starred Vivien Leigh as Blanche and Marlon Brando as Stanley, winning four awards at the 24th Academy Awards: Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Art Direction.
In this production, Song Sun Mi and Han Da Gam will alternate in the role of Blanche, while Kwak Do Won takes on the role of Stanley. Oh Jung Yeon will play Stella, and Bae Gi Sung will portray Mitch. Additional cast members will be announced later.
Kwak Do Won halted activities in September 2022 after being booked for driving under the influence. He was caught by police after driving from Geumnung-ri in Hallim-eup to Aewol-eup, Jeju City, while intoxicated. His blood alcohol concentration measured 0.158%, nearly double the license-revoking threshold of 0.08%. In June 2023, the court issued him a summary order with a fine of 10 million KRW (~7,213.40 USD).
Before his DUI, Kwak Do Won starred in the film 'Firefighters,' which was released last year. However, he was unable to attend promotional events such as press conferences, previews, and interviews due to his hiatus.
