A YouTuber is garnering attention for heroically rescuing a dog tied to a building on a leash in the midst of heavy flooding.
For approximately 4 days straight since July 16 KST, South Korea has experienced severe flooding caused by torrential downpours in Gyeonggi Province, Chuncheong Province, and Kwangju. As of July 19 KST, the floods have resulted in 4 deaths and 2 civilians missing, as well as the deaths of countless livestock in regions housing agricultural farms.
Amidst the fear and concern caused by the ongoing floods, one incident is giving South Korean citizens hope. On July 17 KST, one YouTuber who happened to be reporting on the flooding situation in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, spotted a dog floating helplessly in the water. He waded into the water and found that the dog was tied to a building on a leash and could not escape. With help from fellow civilians, the YouTuber was able to free the dog from its leash and guide to land. He then took the dog to an animal hospital for treatment, sharing the process with his viewers.
As the video quickly went viral, onlookers commented, "That's very admirable", "It's not easy to put yourself in danger to save another life", "This is really moving", and more. Others also expressed their frustration over the lives put in danger due to the floods, saying, "If you can't bring the dog with you when you evacuate, at least free it from the leash!".
