Lee Jun Young is set to make his big screen debut in Japan.
On July 8, Billions announced, “Lee Jun Young will appear in legendary Japanese director Yoji Yamada’s 91st film, Tokyo Taxi. This marks his debut in Japanese cinema.”
'Tokyo Taxi' is based on the French film 'Taxi.' Set in Tokyo, the film tells a story of regret, reconciliation, and miraculous moments at the end of life. Top Japanese stars such as Takuya Kimura, Chieko Baisho, Yu Aoi, and Takaya Sakoda will appear in the film, while Lee Jun Young joins the cast in a key role. In fact, his casting and filming were carried out in complete secrecy. Notably, the casting announcement was made only after he had completed all his scenes. He will play the role of Kim Young Ki.
Lee Jun Young portrays the first love of the main character, Sumire (played by Chieko Baisho), during her youth. He is expected to share deep emotional scenes with Yu Aoi, marking his official debut in the Japanese film industry. Reflecting on the experience, Lee Jun Young said, “Thanks to Director Yamada’s emotion-centered direction, I was able to immerse myself naturally in the character. Although the shoot was short, it was an incredibly intense experience.” He continued, “It was a great honor to work with such wonderful actors in my first Japanese film. I hope audiences will feel the warmth of humanity through this movie.”
'Tokyo Taxi' is set to be released nationwide in Japan on November 21.
