KARA's Gyuri has drawn the line and denied any involvement in her ex-boyfriend's fraudulent activities.
On July 16, Gyuri appeared as a witness at the trial regarding the Pica Coin crypto case, held at the Seoul Southern District Court. The questioning lasted for about three hours.
During the proceedings, Gyuri stated that while she was involved in certain business aspects of the project, she had no part in any illegal crypto schemes or market manipulation. She explained, “At the time, I didn’t have many entertainment activities and, as someone who enjoys art, I believed I was participating in a legitimate art exhibition and joint purchase business. I received a salary of approximately 40.67 million KRW (~29,208 USD) and worked for a year as a curator and publicity manager, planning and promoting exhibitions for artists like Cho Young Nam and Im Ha Ryong.”
When Gyuri's ex, Song Ja Ho, launched the related project, Park Gyuri was named as Chief Communications Officer (CCO) and an advisor in the Pica Project.
Gyuri clarified, “I had no knowledge of virtual assets and did not want my photo included in the Pica Token white paper. I never took part in illegal coin-related business or gained any profit from it. Any deposits or withdrawals related to the coin were done at Mr. Song’s request and immediately returned or transferred. I never profited from cryptocurrency.”
She also revealed that in April 2021, she sold her own Bitcoin holdings and invested 60 million KRW (~43,086 USD) in Pica Coin. However, she suffered a complete loss two months later when the coin was delisted in June 2021.
Meanwhile, Song Ja Ho was indicted and detained in July 2023 on charges that included fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, breach of trust, obstruction of business, and violation of the Capital Markets Act. He is accused of soliciting investors to put money into art pieces that were not secured, and trying to do a rug pull while manipulating the price of the cryptocurrency (Pica Coin).
Song, known as the eldest grandson of the former chairman of Dongwon Construction, dated Park Gyuri from 2019 to 2021. When their relationship was first made public, it was widely reported that they had a 7-year age gap, but it later made headlines when it was revealed that the actual age difference was 12 years.
