Online buzz erupted when a poster for the upcoming Jangsu Korean Beef and Apple Festival, scheduled for mid-September, showed that Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon would be performing. The announcement, which spread across online communities on July 13, surprised fans, as top K-pop idols rarely perform at smaller regional festivals.

The poster listed Taeyeon as part of the lineup for the September 19 opening concert. Excitement grew quickly, with netizens commenting things like, “Is this real?” and “I want to go!”, while others speculated that she may be attending because her hometown is Jeonju.
However, on July 14, officials from Jangsu County clarified to Jeonbuk Ilbo that the booking with Taeyeon had ultimately fallen through. They initially received confirmation from their event agency and proceeded to print the poster. But later, they were notified that the appearance was canceled.
Contrary to some media speculation, the confusion was not due to a mix-up with trot singer Kim Taeyeon. A county representative stated, “We did receive notice from the agency that it was Girls Generation’s Taeyeon, but after lunch today, they informed us the booking had failed. We are now working to update the poster and find a replacement artist.”
The county also mentioned they are contacting media outlets to request corrections to inaccurate reports.
