On June 27, The New York Times released its list of The 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century.
The ranking covers films released after January 1, 2000, and was compiled through a survey of 500 individuals, including directors, actors, producers, and film enthusiasts.
Parasite claimed the overall number 1 spot. The New York Times described it as “a story of the haves and have-nots,” adding, “A twisted shock flows from the poor household to the wealthy one.”
The publication referred to director Bong Joon Ho as “a superstar in the making,” praising him as “a master of genre unconstrained by convention” who “burned everything down in a blaze of inevitable violence.”
In addition to 'Parasite,' Bong Joon Ho’s 'Memories of Murder' (2005) ranked 99th place. Director Park Chan Wook also made the list, with 'Oldboy' (2005) landing at 43rd place.
Korean-Canadian director Celine Song placed 86th with 'Past Lives,' a semi-autobiographical film starring actor Teo Yoo.
