Disney+ original series 'Nine Puzzles' has made a strong debut, ranking as the second-most-watched Korean content on the platform, following 'Moving.' The results are based on viewing hours in its first week.

On June 2, Disney+ announced the record, highlighting the series’s high level of interest not only domestically but also globally. 'Nine Puzzles' is a psychological thriller that unravels around an unsolved case from 10 years ago. The story follows Ena (played by Kim Da Mi), the only witness to the case and now a profiler, and Detective Han Saem (played by Son Suk Ku), who still suspects her as the prime suspect. Together, they dive into a series of new murders that begin with the reappearance of mysterious puzzle pieces.

As the series garnered attention upon its release, the production team also unveiled previously unreleased stills that capture the tense and complicated relationship between the protagonists, caught between past trauma and present truth. The performances of Kim Da Mi and Son Suk Ku bring depth to the multi-layered narrative of suspicion, trauma, and pursuit of truth.

Ena, in her role as a profiler, actively investigates crime scenes, visiting the Hangang Police Station, the violent crimes unit, and even Han Saem’s home. Her pursuit of scattered clues and analysis of victim patterns serve as key plot drivers. On the other hand, Han Saem obsessively tracks Ina’s movements, revealing complex emotions beyond mere suspicion. His expressions and dialogue mix doubt, anger, empathy, and confusion.

The main draws of the series lie in its psychological tension and puzzle-like narrative.

Rather than a simple crime or serial killer drama, 'Nine Puzzles' intricately weaves together memories, emotions, and truth like pieces of a puzzle, keeping viewers on edge with each episode. The use of gazes, lingering lines, and set design as foreshadowing elements intensifies viewer immersion. Additionally, the decisions made by Yang Jung Ho (played by Kim Sung Kyun), the head of the violent crimes unit at Hangang Police Station, could steer the plot in unexpected directions. His expression in the reed field hints at a major turning point.

Meanwhile, rookie detective Choi San (played by Hyun Bong Shik) adds a touch of lightness amid the tense atmosphere. A scene where he wears a trendy hat gifted by Ina brings warmth and humor to the team dynamics, reflecting the nuances of real-life relationships.

'Nine Puzzles' is set to release its final episodes (Episodes 10 and 11) on June 4.

Viewers are raving about the series, saying, “Kim Da Mi and Son Suk Ku’s acting synergy is insane,” “Every line and expression is a clue,” and “It feels like watching a psychological chess match.” Some even praise it as “as powerful as 'Moving',” and comment, “Disney+ is finally delivering this kind of content again.” With the finale approaching, speculation is mounting over the identity of the true culprit and Ina’s final decision, heightening anticipation for the last episodes.
