The highly anticipated film 'My Daughter is a Zombie' has officially confirmed its theatrical release for July 30, along with the unveiling of its main trailer.
The movie is a comedic drama that follows a devoted father as he embarks on a secret mission to protect his daughter, who has become the last remaining zombie in the world.
Released on June 26 by distributor NEW, the trailer opens with a chilling public announcement urging people to avoid any contact with the infected. The footage then reveals a haunting glimpse of Soo Ah, played by Choi Yu Ree, who has been infected with the zombie virus. Her eerie transformation immediately captures viewers' attention. Her father, Jung Hwan, played by Jo Jung Suk, returns to his hometown of Eunbong-ri in order to shield her from the outside world.
Upon encountering Soo Ah, Jung Hwan’s friend Dong Bae, played by Yoon Kyung Ho, nervously comments, “She’s changed a bit, huh.” Jung Hwan and his mother Bam Soon, played by Lee Jung Eun, respond with playful excuses, saying, “She’s a teenager now. She’s grown a lot,” adding a humorous touch to the situation.
Determined to reconnect with his daughter, Jung Hwan begins a covert training mission, with help from Bam Soon’s traditional discipline and Dong Bae’s loyal support. When Soo Ah shows signs of remembering a dance they once practiced before her infection, Jung Hwan sees a spark of hope. Together, they initiate a series of emotional exercises such as memory-boosting movements and communicating through eye contact, refusing to give up on her.
Tension escalates with the reappearance of Jung Hwan’s first love Yeon Hwa, played by Jo Yeo Jung, who despises zombies and coldly claims, “That’s not your daughter anymore.” As the outside world begins to suspect Soo Ah's existence, the situation quickly spirals out of control.
A touching line in the trailer reads, “Even if the whole world turns against you, I won’t give up,” reflecting Jung Hwan’s unwavering love for his daughter. In a poignant imagined scene, Soo Ah asks, “Dad, can you wait just a little longer?” to which Jung Hwan tearfully replies, “I’ll wait,” hinting at the emotional depth of the film.
With a stellar cast including Jo Jung Suk, Choi Yu Ree, Lee Jung Eun, Jo Yeo Jung, and Yoon Kyung Ho, 'My Daughter is a Zombie' promises a unique blend of comedy and heartfelt drama. The actors deliver strong performances that stay true to the original characters, creating a rich and engaging experience for the audience.
'My Daughter is a Zombie' will open in theaters across South Korea on July 30.
