The growing popularity of Pop Mart's Labubu plush toys has recently become a hot topic of discussion among Korean netizens, especially following an unexpected incident at a Pop Mart Korea flagship store.
Pop Mart suspends Labubu offline sales in Korea
The company recently announced that it would temporarily suspend in-person sales of Labubu dolls after a physical altercation broke out among customers lining up to purchase the latest releases. Pop Mart explained, "Due to concerns raised over potential safety incidents at offline sales locations, and with the safety of our customers as our top priority, we have decided to temporarily suspend the offline sales of all LABUBU plush dolls and LABUBU plush keyring series."
According to online reports, a fight broke out between customers waiting in line to purchase the new Labubu series at the flagship store in Korea. One netizen explained, "A fight broke out, so police had to come."
Other Korean netizens revealed that the fight broke out between Chinese customers. Additionally, these netizens revealed that the toys were not as popular in Korea and questioned why the Labubu series was trending overseas.
