SEVENTEEN stands firm in 10th year with bold comeback

SEVENTEEN marked its 10th debut anniversary with the release of its fifth studio album, 'Happy Burstday', reaffirming the group's lasting popularity and musical evolution.

Released on May 26, 2025, KST, 'Happy Burstday' fuses the celebratory phrase “Happy Birthday” with the word “Burst,” symbolizing the group’s explosive rebirth and a bold new chapter. The album reflects SEVENTEEN's decade-long journey and its forward-looking aspirations.

The title track, 'Thunder', is an EDM-based dance-pop song driven by a catchy chorus. It uses thunder and lightning as metaphors to express the group’s drive to expand its artistic scope. S.Coups explained, "We've taken on many challenges as SEVENTEEN, and this song reflects our confidence in showing new facets of ourselves. We hope listeners can feel our renewed energy."

The album features 16 tracks, including three group songs—'Thunder', 'HBD', and 'Bad Influence'—alongside 13 solo tracks, one from each member. It is the first time SEVENTEEN has included solo songs from all members in a single album, highlighting their individual artistry and versatility.

'Happy Burstday' enjoyed remarkable commercial success, selling approximately 2.27 million copies on its first day, the highest first-day sales of 2025 on Hanteo Chart. It also topped Japan’s Oricon Daily Album Chart for two consecutive days, selling over 343,000 copies on May 27, 2025, JST.

The lead single 'Thunder' debuted at No. 7 on Melon’s Top 100 and reached No. 1 by midnight on May 27, 2025, KST. It also claimed the No. 1 spot on iTunes Top Songs charts in 13 regions and debuted at No. 7 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart.

Critics responded positively to the album’s concept and diversity. UK music magazine Clash described 'Happy Burstday' as "a bold work where energy, individuality, and reinvention harmonize—not merely a 10th-anniversary celebration but a declaration of rebirth." Billboard added that 'Thunder' "demonstrates SEVENTEEN's continued musical achievements for the next decade and beyond."

Reflecting on the success, S.Coups shared, "Receiving such a significant gift on our 10th anniversary feels incredible. I'm thankful to our fans, CARATs, and my members who’ve worked hard together. Let’s continue this journey for the next 10 years." Hoshi added, "It feels like we’re being told, ‘You’ve done well, you’ve endured well.’ I’m truly grateful to CARATs and will repay this feeling on stage." Woozi said, "I'm overwhelmed. I’m always thankful to everyone who listens to our music, and this time is no different."
