Kim Jong Hyeon, former leader of NU'EST, set for military discharge on March 22

Kim Jong Hyeon, the singer and actor formerly known as JR, is scheduled to complete his mandatory military service. On March 22, 2026, he will be officially discharged as a sergeant after serving as an active-duty soldier in the Republic of Korea Army. Since his enlistment in September 2024, fans have eagerly anticipated his return to the industry, marking the end of his 18-month service period.

Kim Jong Hyeon debuted in 2012 as the leader of the boy group NU'EST, which produced several hits such as 'Face', 'Hello', 'Love Paint', and 'I'm in Trouble'. He also saw immense success through the unit NU'EST W and gained widespread recognition after participating in Mnet’s survival program 'Produce 101 Season 2' in 2017. He made his acting debut in the 2021 drama 'Let Me Be Your Knight' and continued to expand his filmography with roles in 'My First Kiss', 'Sound Candy', and 'My Friend's Graduation'. With his military duties now concluded, industry insiders expect a swift return to his multifaceted career across music and television, further solidifying his standing as a seasoned entertainer.
