Korean historical film 'The King's Warden' gains international acclaim with 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes

'The King's Warden' is extending its reach to North America, Asia, and Oceania, continuing its box office momentum overseas.

Following its release in 26 cities, including New Jersey in the United States, the film has also been screened in countries such as Canada, Australia, and Taiwan. On the global review platform Rotten Tomatoes, it has received an audience score of 96% as of March 20, reflecting strong acclaim.

International viewers have praised the film, describing it as “a highly polished work,” “a sincere story of friendship transcending social status and generations,” and “so immersive that subtitles don’t feel like a barrier.”

Audiences further commented, “Watching it in theaters is meaningful,” “Based on true events, it carries a deeper resonance,” and “The lead actors’ performances are impressive, and the ending is particularly moving.” The film is being recommended especially to viewers who appreciate fresh interpretations of historical narratives.

Meanwhile, 'The King's Warden' tells the story set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, where village chief Eom Heung Do voluntarily exiles himself in hopes of reviving his struggling community and ends up living alongside the young deposed king Lee Hong Wi. Since its release, the film has resonated deeply with viewers of all generations, achieving major commercial success and breaking the 14 million viewer mark.
