Singer Bobby Kim recently held a guerrilla concert at Korea University, but only four people showed up, leading to disappointment and a wave of criticism from viewers.

The performance was part of the web variety show ‘Wae No Ja’, which aired on May 15th KST. According to the show’s format, Bobby Kim had to personally recruit 100 attendees within two hours around the university’s campus in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. If the target wasn’t met, the concert would not be held.

Wearing a sign that read “8 p.m. today, location: Blue Raum”, Bobby Kim tirelessly roamed the campus to promote the concert. He even entered classrooms mid-lecture to talk to students, who responded warmly. Even those who didn’t recognize him by face were familiar with his hit songs like “Love…That Guy” and “Tic Tac Toe.”

Despite his efforts, Bobby Kim admitted, “I don’t think I’ll reach 100. Maybe 9 people will show up.” At 7:30 p.m., there were still no attendees near the venue. Still, he remained hopeful: “I gave it my all. It was a pleasure to meet such amazing students.”

Ultimately, only four people came to the venue. It turned out a major university event was happening the same evening, which clashed with the concert.

Some students later commented, “There was a big event on campus today, so people couldn’t attend,” and “It’s really unfortunate. I wanted to go but had to attend the broadcasting festival.”

Upon seeing the turnout, Bobby Kim said, “I knew it wouldn’t be full, but I thought at least 14 people would come. Let’s consider today’s concert canceled.” He added, “Still, I’m grateful for the four people who came and will cherish this memory.”

After the episode aired, many viewers criticized the production team, calling the setup disrespectful to the artist. Comments included:

“This was extremely rude to the artist. They should’ve checked the campus event schedule,”

“This disrespects existing fans,”

“The whole video was upsetting,” and

“They made him look like a fool.”

Bobby Kim himself responded to the backlash in the comment section:

“I see that many fans were hurt. I’m touched that so many care.”

“But really, I’m fine. It wouldn’t be fun if everything went well from the start. I’ll treat this as a new beginning and aim to perform in front of 1,000 or even 10,000 people. Let’s keep enjoying this journey together, no misunderstandings.”
