Nam Tae Hyun, a singer formerly of the group WINNER, is once again facing controversy for drunk driving.

On May 8, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that Nam has been booked and is under investigation for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).

Nam is suspected of crashing into a central divider near Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro highway heading toward Ilsan around 4:10 AM on April 27 while attempting to overtake another vehicle.

Fortunately, there were no injuries, but reports state that Nam’s blood alcohol concentration at the time of the accident was at a license cancellation level (0.08% or higher).

Police applied for an arrest warrant on May 2, but the court dismissed it during a warrant review hearing on the 7th, citing insufficient grounds for detention. Authorities are expected to forward the case without detention soon.

In January last year, Nam Tae Hyun received a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for violating the Narcotics Control Act. He was also fined 6 million KRW (approx. 4,269 USD) in March 2023 after causing a drunk driving accident during a drug-related investigation.
