Actor Lee Jae Wook has opened up about his role in 'Tangeum' and his upcoming plans, including military enlistment.
On May 19th KST, an interview with Lee was held at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, to discuss the Netflix original series 'Tangeum'.
Having taken on his second historical drama following Alchemy of Souls, Lee said, “My fans seem to really love seeing me in hanbok. I personally found the hanbok in this project especially beautiful. Even though I wore a lot of white, I came to realize how many different kinds of white hanbok there are. I was really drawn to the diversity and charm of hanbok.”
On handling numerous action scenes, Lee candidly admitted, “It would be a lie to say it wasn’t difficult.” He explained, “In ‘Alchemy of Souls’, there were more fantastical elements, but in 'Tangeum', there’s realistic sword-to-sword combat. That made things more intense. The risk of injury is always there if you lose focus, so I think avoiding injury was the top priority.”
Lee also briefly addressed his public relationship with Karina of aespa, which made headlines during the filming of 'Tangeum'. “It didn’t really affect my immersion in the role,” he said, before adding, “Going into more detail would make it too personal, so I’d rather not.”
As for his military enlistment, Lee remarked, “I’ve reached the final deadline. I wasn’t diligent enough to pursue graduate school or other options.” He continued, “Even if I enlist, I want people to be able to find a lot of my work and writings. So I plan to keep working as much as possible until the moment I leave.”
