A new drama is drawing viewers' attention as it marks the first time in Korean broadcast history that a public network series features a labor attorney as the main character. That drama is MBC’s new Friday-Saturday series, 'Oh My Ghost Clients' that premiered on May at 9:50 PM KST.

The show goes beyond simply introducing a new profession. It features a labor attorney who can see ghosts and helps the souls of workers who died in industrial accidents find peace, while also resolving labor-related issues. With this unique premise, the drama blends comic fantasy with serious social commentary, earning praise as a fresh genre experiment.

The directing team is also top-tier. Acclaimed filmmaker Im Soon Rye, known for movies like 'Forever the Moment,' 'Little Forest,' and 'The Negotiation,' is making her drama directorial debut. At the online press conference on May 30, she explained, “I was drawn in by the drama’s concept and script. That was the biggest reason I decided to take on the challenge.”

She added, “This is the first drama to seriously introduce the profession of a labor attorney. I focused on balancing the fantastical elements of seeing ghosts with the real-world issues of industrial accidents. I aimed to strike a balance between everyday life and fantasy, between weight and levity, and between humor and seriousness.”

Screenwriters Kim Bo Tong (from hit Netflix series 'D.P.') and Yoo Seung Hee (from the film 'I Can Speak') joined forces to elevate the script’s quality.

In the lead role is Jung Kyung Ho, often dubbed the “go-to actor for professional roles.” After playing a doctor ('Hospital Playlist') and a star lecturer ('Crash Course in Romance'), he now takes on the role of a labor attorney. “I’ve played a wide range of jobs, some completely opposite from each other. It’s fun and exciting for me personally. I get to experience things I didn’t know before,” he shared.

Jung Kyung Ho plays Noh Moo Jin, who initially becomes a labor attorney simply to make a living. However, as he handles various cases, he gradually develops a sense of professional mission. He explained, “Unlike my previous characters, this one doesn’t start off with a strong sense of professional ethics. But through his experiences, he grows and becomes more committed to his role."

Joining Jung are Seol In Ah and Cha Hak Yeon (N of VIXX), forming the “Moojins” team. Seol plays Na Hee Joo, a bold and fiery fighter-type character, while Cha portrays Go Kyun Woo, a quirky and upbeat video creator.

All three actors praised their teamwork. Cha Hak Yeon said, “I’ve never given a perfect score while working before, but I want to this time. Our chemistry is amazing, and I noticed how our movements even start syncing up when we’re together.”

Seol In Ah echoed, “I’d also give us a perfect score. Our synergy was perfect, and Jung Kyung Ho was at the center of it all.” Jung Kyung Ho added, “I’d give a perfect score too. The two of them are so cheerful and energetic. I’m quiet and low-energy, so the balance between us is spot on.”

He also shared a behind-the-scenes anecdote, saying, “When the three of us are together, it’s almost impossible to keep filming. Once a topic comes up, especially about dogs, we just talk about it until someone says, ‘Let’s stop talking and film already.’”

Despite its comedic and emotional elements, 'Oh My Ghost Clients' carries a heavy social message. Episodes are based on real-life industrial accident cases, aiming to leave a strong impression on viewers.

Director Im explained, “Episodes 1 and 2 depict a student from a technical high school who dies in a tragic accident after being sent to a site without proper safety training. In reality, the manufacturing sector has a high rate of such incidents. What pained me the most was imagining a very young person losing their life due to adults’ irresponsibility in a place with inadequate safety systems.”

The drama also features high-profile cameo appearances. At the press conference, Jung Kyung Ho mentioned Jin Sun Kyu as a particularly exciting guest, but quickly added, “Kim Dae Myung kicks off the entire drama. Make sure to watch tonight!

Director Im hinted that future episodes will include many strong actors and said,  “There’s not a single weak performance in the lineup. I’ve worked on a lot of films, but for this drama, I got to collaborate with so many amazing actors. Especially veteran actors who joined because of our past relationships or their interest in the project. It’ll be a treat for viewers.

The actors highlighted the drama’s pacing and emotional depth as key viewing points. Cha Hak Yeon commented, “It moves so fast. You’ll feel like it’s over in an instant. And you really get emotionally invested in the characters. I’m confident viewers will be drawn in without even noticing.”

Director Im concluded, “There are plenty of fun and provocative dramas out there, but ours includes serious themes and offers emotional healing through the stories of restless spirits. It’s a drama packed with heart, fun, and a meaningful message.”
