EXO member and solo artist Baekhyun has released a Q&A interview to commemorate the launch of his fifth mini album, "Essence of Reverie".
The album explores the concept of Baekhyun standing at the boundary between reality and idealism. Featuring seven tracks, its title song, "Elevator", is a pop R&B number that likens a loved one's heart to an elevator, creating a romantic atmosphere.
With global fans expressing high anticipation ahead of the release, Baekhyun shared his thoughts and ambitions through his agency, INB100.

Baekhyun’s Q&A
Q. Your fifth mini album releases today. How do you feel?
I learned and felt a lot while being directly involved in the making of this album. I’m really happy — I think it represents an upgraded version of myself!
Q. The album is titled "Essence of Reverie", which reflects Baekhyun at the boundary of reality and dreams. What core message are you trying to convey?
I’m always thinking deeply about music. I want to be an artist who adapts and evolves — for my listeners and for Eri (the nickname for EXO-Ls, EXO’s official fandom).
Q. Why did you choose "Elevator" as the title track?
I loved the idea of expressing a loved one’s heart as an elevator. It also felt like a song that amplifies my youthful charm.
Q. Any behind-the-scenes moments or highlights to watch for in the "Elevator" music video?
Filming felt like hanging out with friends! I had great chemistry with the dancers, and the production team was amazing. A key point is the continuity between this and unreleased clips — fans should watch closely to see how they connect.
Q. You’re known for your expressive vocals and stylish performances. What’s the highlight of the title track’s stage?
Definitely the facial expressions, choreography that captures the song’s mood and vibe, and the polished melody line. I hope to greet many people again through this performance.
Q. You pre-released "Chocolate" on May 15. Why did you decide to release it early?
I had a hard time choosing between "Chocolate" and "Elevator" as the title track. I’m very attached to "Chocolate", and it felt like too much of a waste to leave it as just a B-side, so I decided to release it early.
Q. The album features a special character named ‘Sweet-Sleep.’ Can you explain the idea behind it?
After Teoraegi (a previous plush mascot), I wanted a new plush character. Since this album’s theme is "dream" and "fantasy," and I want everyone who loves me to sleep well, I came up with Sweet-Sleep, a neck pillow character. I hope Sweet-Sleep helps improve your sleep quality!
Q. This is your fifth mini album as a solo artist. You have a distinct musical identity. How do you want global listeners to see you?
I want to be remembered as someone who’s "fan-loving," "reliable," "consistent," and "humble." That’s the approach I want to take with my fans and listeners.
Q. You participated in the album’s production. Is there a track or lyric that stands out to you?
All the songs are precious to me, but "Black Dreams" is especially memorable. I always tell Eris, “Let’s have a black dream,” meaning don’t dream at all — just get a good night’s rest. It’s a phrase only we used to share, so working on it was really fun.
Q. Artist Colde contributed a lot to the album. Why did you choose to collaborate with him again?
Colde is very passionate and dedicated — he inspires me musically. Our connection started with "Love Again" from my second mini album. We’ve been close for a long time, and now we have great chemistry. I believed we could make an even better album together, and I hope we continue working together in the future.
Q. If you could describe this album in one word?
Love. It represents the love I receive from fans and my desire to return that love. I wanted to remind listeners of me — and their memories of me. I remember having deep discussions with Colde and the staff about how to capture that feeling.
Q. You’ll be kicking off your first solo world tour in June, 13 years after debut. What do you hope to show, and how are you preparing?
My main goal is to finally greet Eris around the world who’ve been waiting for me. I’ll do my very best to make sure the wait feels worth it — and to make everyone happy!
Q. Fans around the world have been waiting for your comeback. Any final message for them?
To all my Eris — while working on this fifth mini album, I truly felt that you're coexisting with me in my life. I believe I’m filled with love because of the endless support and affection you give me. I always try to repay you, though I’m not sure how much of my sincerity comes through. But I really, truly made this album with you in mind. I hope your hearts are filled with love while listening to it. I love you all so much!
