YouTube show 'Repeat Restaurant' recently faced controversy over a civilian guest’s alleged lie and is now set to reshoot its episode in Anyang.
'Repeat Restaurant' is a web variety show on YouTube hosted by broadcaster Poongja, where the team interviews locals in specific areas to get recommendations for restaurants they’ve revisited and loved. Each episode features a competition among the visited restaurants, with the winner receiving an official 'Repeat Restaurant' poster.
However, the show has strict guidelines when selecting featured restaurants. These include not accepting recommendations for family- or friend-owned businesses and excluding franchise restaurants. Recently, an episode filmed in Anyang sparked allegations that a civilian guest introduced their parents’ restaurant, violating the show's rules.
On April 27, the 'Repeat Restaurant' production team released a statement acknowledging the issue. The team stated, “We confirmed that the restaurant chosen as first place in the Anyang episode violated our selection criteria,” they said. “We verified that the participant’s claim of ‘no family relation’ was false.”
They continued, “We confirmed the facts directly with the individual. The poster awarded to the restaurant has been retrieved, and we have decided to permanently delete the video. A new version will be produced and released as soon as possible.”
The production team also cautioned viewers by saying, “Please note that any comments revealing the personal information of the guest or engaging in excessive criticism may be removed. We’d also like to reaffirm that 'Repeat Restaurant' has never accepted paid promotions for featured restaurants over the past three years. We will do our best to ensure this does not happen again.”
On April 29, Poongja posted an update on Instagram with a caption reading, “Emergency meeting for the 'Repeat Restaurant' Anyang revisit. We’re heading to Anyang soon. Fighting!”
