On March 7, NJZ (NewJeans), their representatives, and representatives from ADOR attended a court hearing at Seoul Central District Court in order to address the injunction request made by ADOR. In the request, ADOR sought verification of its status as the management label of NewJeans, and requested that the NJZ members be prevented from signing independent advertisement contracts and participating in any music/entertainment activities.
During the hearing, NJZ centered their case on their alleged mistreatment and discrimination from ADOR, citing a breach of trust as the reason they had to terminate their contracts. Meanwhile, ADOR continued to deny those claims and argue that NJZ had illegally terminated their contracts in November.
As both sides were prompted to give their final statements, ADOR CEO Kim Joo-young took the opportunity to make a heartfelt appeal to NJZ. The ADOR CEO stated, "There is only one reason I filed this injunction: to continue working with NewJeans. Although the current situation is difficult, the staff members of ADOR have always dedicated themselves to NewJeans, and we are waiting for them to return.
One of the staff members who works in video production, who produces NewJeans' music videos, told me: 'Although the members probably don't even know that I exist, I spent every day editing their videos, and thinking about how I can better portray their lovely appearances and voices, as someone who probably sees their faces and hears their voices more than the members themselves.'"
The CEO continued, "I've been thinking about how I can show that lovely appearance better as well. Please give us a chance, for the sake of all the ADOR staff who have been running with all their heart and dedicating themselves solely to NewJeans. We will give our all to support NewJeans with sincerity and commitment."
As CEO Kim Joo-young finished this passionate appeal, the members of NJZ reportedly looked surprised and amused, and were seen holding back laughter.
After leaving court that day, the members of NJZ were seen laughing and smiling as they exited the building.
Meanwhile, the court's final decision on the injunction has not yet been revealed, with further court appearances scheduled for NJZ and ADOR.
