It has been confirmed that the late singer Wheesung pursued his musical career under the pseudonym 'Shin Jin Seo.'
According to an exclusive report by OSEN on March 15, the composer and lyricist credited as Shin Jin Seo for the song 'Sandcastle' by the female duo Davichi was, in fact, Wheesung. He was also listed as an arranger for the track.
'Sandcastle' was featured in Davichi's mini-album 'Season Note,' released on May 16, 2022. The song was a collaboration between composer Moon Ji Young, known professionally as 'Moon Land Ji Young,' and lyricist Shin Jin Seo.
It has now come to light that Shin Jin Seo was an alias used by Wheesung to continue his musical contributions. Since the release of 'Fantasy,' part of the OST for the drama 'Sponsor' on March 2, 2022, Wheesung had not publicly released new music. However, it has been revealed that he remained active in composition behind the scenes.
A close associate of Wheesung stated to OSEN, "Even after facing personal challenges, Wheesung was determined to continue his musical career. However, given the circumstances at the time, he opted to use a pseudonym to mitigate any potential risks associated with his name. Since the song was performed by another artist, he wished for the music to be judged solely on its artistic merit."
Wheesung previously faced legal issues related to allegations of propofol use, stemming from accusations made by broadcaster Amy. In October 2021, he was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years, along with a fine of 60.5 million KRW (approximately $41,700), 40 hours of community service, and mandatory drug rehabilitation education.
Following these legal proceedings, Wheesung resolved to focus entirely on music while also managing his long-term struggles with panic disorder and chronic depression. His use of a different name for composition reflected his desire to be recognized for his work rather than his past controversies.
On March 10, Wheesung was found unresponsive at his residence, shocking the entertainment industry. He was 43 years old. After careful consideration, his family arranged a wake at Samsung Medical Center Funeral Hall on March 14, allowing fans, colleagues, and fellow artists to pay their respects. The funeral and burial service is scheduled for the morning of March 16 at Gwangneung Memorial Park.
