Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, wife of singer Koo Jun Yup (DJ Koo), has tragically passed away due to pneumonia, according to local media reports from Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA) on the 3rd (local time).
Taiwanese outlets reported that Barbie Hsu died from acute pneumonia caused by the flu while traveling in Japan. Some sources added that her family is still in Japan, and her funeral is planned to take place there.
CNA cited a statement from Barbie Hsu's younger sister, who confirmed the heartbreaking news. She said, "During our family trip to Japan for the Lunar New Year, my dearest and kindest sister Barbie Hsu left us due to pneumonia caused by the flu."
She continued, "I am grateful to have been her sister in this life, and I will cherish the times we supported and cared for each other. Rest in peace, my sister. I will love you forever," the statement concluded. The message was also posted on a joint Instagram account that the sisters used to document their activities.
Barbie Hsu and Koo Jun Yup, who had previously dated, became a widely publicized couple due to their dramatic love story. The two first met in 1998 while active in the entertainment industry, dating for about a year. However, due to the public's intense reaction to their relationship and opposition from their agencies, they parted ways.
Years later, in 2011, Barbie Hsu married Chinese business tycoon Wang Xiaofei, with whom she had one son and one daughter. However, due to frequent conflicts with Wang Xiaofei, they divorced in November 2021 after 10 years of marriage.
Following this, Koo Jun Yup reached out to Barbie Hsu, and the two eventually rekindled their love, leading to marriage in 2022. Koo Jun Yup announced the marriage, saying, "I am continuing the love I couldn’t finish with the woman I loved." Shiu Hsi Yuan shared the message, adding, "Life is not forever, and I will cherish the happiness I have left."
