Former announcer and model Kim Na Jung, who posted a message on social media claiming she had taken drugs and needed emergency assistance in the Philippines, has been reported to the police.
On the night of November 12th KST, a netizen filed a report through the National Sinmungo to the Seoul Mapo Police Station, requesting an investigation into Kim Najung for alleged violations of the Narcotics Control Act (suspicion of drug use and transport).
The netizen stated, “Considering the severe penalties for drug crimes in the Philippines, which can lead to life imprisonment, it seems Kim Na Jung was urgently seeking assistance through the embassy,” adding, “Based on her Instagram post mentioning ‘getting on the plane,’ it’s presumed she safely arrived back in Korea.”
The netizen continued, “Given the potential for young people to emulate famous individuals involved in drug use, authorities should strictly punish celebrity drug crimes to set a cautionary example. We strongly urge a thorough investigation into Kim Na Jung’s alleged drug use and transport under the Narcotics Control Act to clearly determine her guilt and serve as a stern warning.”
Earlier that day, Kim Na Jung had posted on her Instagram story, “I’m at Conrad Hotel in Manila. My life is in danger,” explaining, “I’m too scared to go to the airport or take a taxi,” and requesting help, including a call to the embassy. However, she did not specify the exact situation she was facing.
Later, around noon, she posted an image of her ticket for a flight from Manila to Incheon, saying, “I feel like I’ll die if I get on the plane. I feel like leaving Manila will get me killed. The airport is also dangerous. Please help me.” She later added, “I’m getting on the plane,” in a series of incoherent messages.
Some of her posts raised suspicions of drug use. She wrote, “Last night, my flight from Manila was delayed, and late at night, airport staff, passengers, and immigration officers were all filming me like in 'The Truman Show'. I discarded all my bags to avoid a drug trafficking situation.”
She then added, “If I get on that plane, I’ll die. Korea, please help. I confess to using drugs in the Philippines. Due to my paranoia, I feel like I’ll end up dead no matter what, so I can’t board the plane.” The drug-related posts have since been deleted.
Meanwhile, Kim Na Jung became known in 2019 after winning the 'Miss Maxim' contest for a men’s magazine. She has also worked as an announcer and weathercaster.
